Dr Clement Ebin

Wildlife Scientist & Natural Resources Manager

Dr Clement Ebin is a Wildlife Scientist and Natural Resources Manager, with well over 50 years of professional work experience, after receiving training within and outside Nigeria. His training spans across all the areas of Natural Resources Management. He first trained as a Forest Technician; he also holds a B.sc degree in Wildlife, M.Sc. in Natural Resources Management and a Ph.D. in Protected Area Management. Contracted by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation in 1983, Ebin did not only evaluate and establish the suitability of the Sites of the present day Nigerian National Parks, based on the US standards, but his field research confirmed the continued existence of Gorillas in the forests of Cross River State, Nigeria, after they were declared extinct in Nigeria.

Ebin is one of the founding fathers of the Nigerian National Park System. He became the Pioneer GM/CEO of the Cross River National Park and the Country Supervising Officer of the externally funded Conservation Programs of the EU, WWF, KFW(Germany) of the Park between 1998 to 2002. He has a wide background experience in managing Protected Areas and the adjoining human populations in and around such areas. He worked and voluntarily retired from the Service of the FGN, as Director, after 35years of meritorious service to his country. During this time he was also a member of the Scientific Committee of the NCF.

A strong defender of the rainforest and environment generally, he introduced conservation advocacy programs in the country and contributed immensely in the fight against unsustainable utilization of natural resources and destructive environmental practices, which effort contributed to giving Nigeria a global status to qualify for the REDD mechanism negotiations within the Climate Change mitigation framework.  Due to Dr. Ebin’s passion for Wildlife and Nature, he is still actively involved in the issues of biodiversity preservation. He is the President and Co-founder of Biodiversity Preservation Center, (BPC); Executive Director of African Ecological Restoration Foundation (AERF), among others.                                                                                     

Academic Position Held:     

After retirement from Government Service, Dr. Ebin was appointed Senior Lecturer, on contract, in Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH),where he served for 5 years.
Ebin holds some important positions. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the Wildlife Society of Nigeria (WISON) and one time Regional Director representing Africa (2011-2013) in the Society of Ecological Restoration International (SER-I), with its Headquarters in Washington,  D.C USA.
