Ecologist and Natural Resource Management Specialist

Alade ADELEKE is an Ecologist and Natural Resource Management Specialist.  With a background in Biology and Professional training in Ecology and Resource Management, Adeleke has been and is still involved in the planning and management of key conservation projects and initiatives in Nigeria and other parts of Africa. Alade Adeleke holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology (University of Ilorin, Nigeria) and a Masters degree in Natural Resource Management (University of Edingburgh, United Kingdom). Adeleke also received Professional Training in Wildlife Conservation and Management in a number of countries in Africa, Europe and America.

Alade Adeleke began his biodiversity conservation carrier in 1990 as the pioneer Project Manager of Lekki Conservation Centre and later Okomu Wildlife Sanctuary (now Okomu National Park) in Edo State. He was a Regional Manager for the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) in the South east office, Calabar between 2002 and 2004. In 2004 Adeleke was the Specialist in charge of Conservation for the USAID sponsored Sustainable Practices in Agriculture for Critical Environment between 2004 and 2007. He became the Director of Technical Programmes of NCF in 2007 and was the Acting Executive Director of the Foundation between 2012 and 2015. His carrier in nature conservation enabled him to participate and still participating in several initiatives and programmes related to Wildlife Management, Protected Area Management systems, systems and action on species, community participation in natural resource management and policy advocacy and awareness on biodiversity conservation.

Alade Adeleke is currently an Independent Consultant on Biodiversity and Rural Development. He is a Consulting Technical Director of the Lekki Urban Agriculture and Wildlife Sanctuary Initiative, the Environmental Management and Development Trust and leads the Consulting Firm, Naturescopex Nigeria Limited based in Lagos. As part of his effort for leading the Environmental Management and Development Trust, he won the prestigious UNDP Equator Award on local solutions for climate change in 2019.

Alade Adeleke is a member of Board of Trustees of the Living Earth Nigeria Foundation, and also a member of the IUCN Specialist Group on Sustainable Livelihoods.
