Conservation Advocacy
I am a lecturer at Federal University Dutse, and an accomplished explorer, adventurer, wildlife photographer, and biodiversity conservationist. Through social media and other platforms, I strive to share my experiences and knowledge of wild places and nature with people, to inspire them to explore for themselves, while promoting conservation. Reading and creative writings are my passion. Empowering people to follow suit provides me with enormous gratification. I held a B.Sc. Zoology from Bayero University Kano, and Master of Science in Biodiversity Conservation from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Currently, I am a doctoral student at Morgan State University, Maryland, USA. My visionary perspective has earned me opportunities to work in diverse team and projects, like the Technical Working Group (TWG) for the Development and Implementation of Wildlife Disease Surveillance System in Nigeria (REDISSE Project), the Nigerian Coordination Group of Key Biodiversity Areas (NCG-KBAs),and the Nigerian Bird Atlas Project (NiBAP). I am the pioneered Secretary-General of the Arewa Atlas Team, where I coordinated birding trips in the 19states of the country between 1028 and 2020. Following my outstanding achievements, the NiBAP nominated me as one of the project Ambassadors in 2021. In 2019, I served as the Secretary Local Organizing Committee during the Nigeria Tropical Biology Association (NTBA) conference in 2018. I am involved profoundly in the biodiversity and Development Institute’s (BDI) citizen science projects based in South Africa.
I initiated the Federal University Dutse Conservation Society and served as its secretary in 2018. I founded the Wildlife Advocacy and West African Wildlife and Nature Photography Facebook page in 2013 and 2020, to promote wildlife and nature conservation. I am a member of many committees in my university, am the Chairman, Committee on maintenance and revenue generation of the Federal University Dutse Zoological garden, Member, Faculty of Science Seminar, Workshop and Conference Committee, and Assistant Coordinator, Field Trip Committee, just to mention but a few. I am a recipient of two commendation letters from the University Management on conservation activities.
Broadly, my goals are to make cases and actions that focus on biodiversity conservation, conservation education, citizen science, and mentorship. My central career goal is to become an inspiring educator, researcher, and biodiversity conservationist contributing to both national and international development.
